1st round picks

Well I did pretty good on my 1st round predictions of the Stanley Cup playoffs. I got 6-8 right. Detroit, Vancouver, and Chicago were all my picks in the west. I had San Jose winning their series but it went to Anaheim.

Carolina, Washington, and Boston were my picks in the East. The one that I got wrong was Pittsburgh. I thought Philadelphia would upset them. Well I'm very happy with 6 right.

Ok the second round

Lets see
Detroit vs Anaheim. Have to go with Detroit, even thou I would love to see Anaheim win .

Vancouver vs Chicago My team are the canucks so im picking Vancouver

Boston vs Carolina Boston is the pick here

Pittsburgh vs Washington This will be a great series with Crosby against Ovechkin Im taking Washington.

There you have it. your picks are?

odd shot old playoff memory

to see more odd shots check out http://katneyskaboodle.blogspot.com/

Watching the hockey playoff game tonight, I saw the mascot of the Calgary flames. It brought back memories of an incident that happened between Calgary and Edmonton Oilers.
The coach of the Oilers Craig Mactavish was being bugged by the mascot and when he leaned over the glass. The coach reached up and pulled the tongue of the mascot out of his mouth and then threw it to the crowd.

Not that I approve actions of the mascot or the coach but it was very funny. read the story here

odd text

While walking in Oak Bay near the Oak Bay marina the other day. We came across this time capsule monument in a park. Now I know the concept of time capsules and that in 50 years for Oak Bay's 150 anniversary it will be open and the contents revealed and new ones added.

But this last line of " Do not remove" took me by surprise. I have never seen this on a monument or time capsule before. Why did they feel it was necessary to add this to it. I'm sure they meant not to take off the top and reveal the contents. But why put it there.

The problem I see is it will now give some people ideas. Like for fun lets take the top off and see whats in there. And also anyone with the mindset to do something to the monument is going to do it whether there is a text saying don't do it or not.

so my advice would be just leave the text off. You are only inviting trouble by putting it on.

Well what do you think. leave a comment below

former expo snafu

Well the Montreal Expos continue to get in the news for the wrong reasons. But now they are the Washington Nationals. As in the picture you will see someone goofed with the uniforms on Friday April 17. Someone or a bunch of people goofed and misspelled the name Nationals.

So the Nationals, or should I say the Natinals have a terrible start. a 2-10 record so far this year and the worst record in baseball last year. There is only one way up and that's to get better.

Check out the story here http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1668914/washington_nationals_uniform_blunder.html

But back to the misspelled uniform. You wonder how so many people could miss this. the guy that ordered the unis , or the guys at the uniform company, or the staff of the Nationals when they arrived. Or even the trainers before they gave them to the players. How about the manager and coaches and players as they put on the uniform. It just seems like how did no one notice.

Ok well stay tune for other weird news as I find it along with whatever I seem interesting to post.
Next time Go Natinals

Problems with National Anthems

Well during the recent Stanley Cup playoffs some fans in Montreal have been booing the United States National anthem. This is not new , as other places have done the same in the past. And I must say its not right. But there will always be jerks that don't do what is right. So after listening to a few commentators about the problem and what to do, here is what I think is the way to go.

Since at sporting events since way back there has always been National anthems played before the game starts. But at first it was just the home teams anthem that was played. Then out of courtesy teams started playing the visiting teams anthem too. Now maybe we should just go back to playing only the home teams. That way there is no time for a jerk to boo the visiting team anthem. Just eliminate the situation for the abuse.

Do you agree? Or do you have another suggestion.

Where there is a will there is a way

Yes when you want to do something bad enough you find a way. This small car was carring this couch probably home. I imagine the cushions were inside the car. I just had to stop and take a pic of it. That is what is so nice with my cell phone. It has a camera in it. Its not the best camera but i get a lot of interesting pictures with it.

Hope it didn't damage the roof of the car. I didn't look close but i don't remember seeing any roof racks.

What is the funniest thing you have moved? And how did you do it?

mismatch

This is this weeks odd shot. To see more check out Katne's Kaboodle

Well you have heard of the mismatch socks. Well this is the mismatched footwear.
We were down having a coffee and tea at Ross Bay and spotted this pair.

Dont you want to know the story.

How did they get there? Where are the other 2 footwear? How did these two get beside each other? How long will they stay there? Do the owners know they are missing? Are they both the same size? Were they owned by the same person? Will a third piece of footwear show up beside these two?

Do you have any questions about this?

Background noise

Watching the playoff game on CBC tonight. Vancouver Canucks beat St. Louis Blues 3-0. But the part that annoyed me and has alot this year, Is too much volume on the back ground noise (the crowd) and not enough of the announcers. I know I'm getting older but I wanna hear what they say not what the crowd is cheering. Some back ground is good but don't over do it. At times It was impossible to hear what the announcers were saying. It must be either a new fad with TV that they want to create the feel of being there. But your not and they pay these announcers big money so we might as well hear them.

Other sports channels do this too but not to the extent of CBC. Maybe its something to do with all the cutbacks at CBC. I don't know just lets get back to watching a good game and listening to the so called experts.

Ok thats my take on it. Whats Yours? press the word comment below this and comment. Or comment on any other blog entry. Its nice to have a little chatter here so waiting to hear from all of you.

35 years

Well there it is my prize for working 35 yrs with Canada Post.

I received this today at work in a short meeting. But I completed 35 years on April 01. Now what I have left is to work another month to cover any strike time during my career, and then wait till Dec. 01 when I turn 55. So I will officially be retired on Dec. 02 as if i go now I get a penalty deducted for being too young. 35 years is the maximum pension I can receive.

So my last day of work will be Oct 30. As I have 5 weeks of holidays that I will be taking at that time. I am looking into having a open house type party some time in the first week of November. Most likely it will be held at the Greater Victoria Horseshoe club, or here at our house. Not sure what option yet.

The pin doesn't seem like much now but I'm sure years later it will be nice to see and think of those long hard winters tromping thru the snow.

Ok thru rain , snow, all kinds of weather , Ill write another blog entry

It's that time of year

Yes it's that time of year here in Canada. NHL hockey playoffs. That is where pretty much every night there is a hockey game on TV. I know there are alot of marriages that have trouble during this time, but as long as it is kept in perspective it usually works out. I know my wife enjoys watching the Canuck games with me so I hope they go all the way so that we can enjoy that together.

Ok so how will the games work out. You never know and usually lots of surprises, that is why they play the games --- Upsets!!

Ok my predictions.

series #1 Western Conference
San Jose #1 vs Anaheim #8

I take the Sharks from San Jose. Just too much power there and they have played well all year.

series #2 Western Conference
Detroit #2 vs Columbus #7
I pick Detroit in this one. lots of experience and Columbus with not much experience .

Series #3 Western Conference
Vancouver #3 vs St. Louis #6
Well Have to take the Canucks from Vancouver as they are my team and I have to pick them to win at least the first round.

Series #4 Western Conference
Chicago #4 vs Calgary #5
Well now this is my upset. I pick the black hawks even tho they are ranked higher than Calgary, Calgary free fell down to 5th the last 2 weeks of the season.

Series #1 Eastern Conference
Boston #1 vs Montreal #8
The traditional match up come playoff time. Lots of history in these rivals. But Montreal is not the team it use to be. Boston wins this time

Series #2 Eastern Conference
Washington #2 vs New York Rangers #7
Again in this season just too much offensive power in Washington . The Capitals will win this one. Watch Ovetchkin do a lot of scoring.

Series #3 Eastern Conference
New Jersey #3 vs Carolina #6
Well I pick the upset in this one. Carolina made a coaching change a few months ago and have played awesome since. take the Huricanes from Carolina.

Series #4 Eastern Conference
Pittsburgh #4 vs Philadephia #5
This one is a toss up. Im going to go out on a limb and pick Philadephia because I think they are just hungrier for the wins than the penguins.

Ok there they are. What do you think? Am I right or wrong? leave a comment and tell me who you think will win these first series.

Till next time

New intersection

Well after long wait, a new intersection is opening up in Langford (west of Victoria). It will take a lot of traffic off of the two main streets that go to the Westshore town center (formerly Canwest mall). It has been promised for a long time but it wasn't till about a year ago that the local politicians fast tracked it. It was scheduled to be open about 3 months ago but with the long winter and many snowfalls it will now finally open this weekend.

It will be a direct route to the mall and will be another road that crosses the railway track in the area. Langford use to be you had to drive around large areas to get just two blocks in a straight line. Now another of these is now been corrected. Hope you enjoy this new thru road and it is very nicely designed and already has the spring flowers planted in.

Ok till next time

Odd shots Apr.13

Well here is my odd shot for this Monday. This fountain can be found at Veteran's Memorial park in Langford (outside of Victoria,B.C.). I have seen all the suds here before but always wondered why! Is it soap put in the fountain. If it is soap was it done on purpose by city workers or by troublemakers? Or is it something that just happens when the conditions wind and rain and dirt or whatever is just right. Maybe you have an answer.

Movie nite

Well Tonight my wife and I decided to go for a walk. As we were passing by a video store, we decided to see if any movie caught our eye. We brought home a video called Flash of Genius. It was a very good true story of a man who was a college professor and inventor who invented the intermittent windshield wiper. Ford had produced the invention without paying the professor or giving him credit for it. The story is about his fight for ethics on right and wrong. A very good movie and i recommend you watch it.
Starring Greg Kinnear as the professor , Lauren Graham as his wife, and Alan Alda as a lawyer.

Well enjoy the movies.

Obituary

I had this sent to me in a email so I thought I would share it with you on this Easter Weekend. As a Christian today Good Friday and Easter Monday have special meaning to me. If you are not a Christian I only ask that you please investigate the life and teaching of Jesus with an open mind. And the one question I ask you is Who did Jesus say he was?
Ok talk to you soon

Be happy

Saw this driving in and about Victoria the other day. I love it when the municipal works crews do things special with flower beds in the area. This time the person had a great sense of humor. Im sure alot of people see this on their monday mornings on their drive to work and it cheers them up a bit. A perfect location at the corner of Blanshard and Finlayson roads. I will try and find a few more of the interesting ones to post during the next few months.

Spring has sprung.

When the picture goes wrong

Well this photo was taken during our last trip trough BC and Alberta. My grandson was taking some pics of windmills. He was trying to get this one perfect and was concentrating on getting a good picture. Which he got lots of good pictures. Then this truck comes by just as he takes the pic. Aggggggggg or something like that
was his response. How many times has something moved or something else gone wrong when we take a picture and have to take another of the subject. Its not so bad now with digital cameras. You can delete these ones ( but i like to keep all my pics) but when you had a old camera you were stuck with it and the developing cost of this throw away pic.

Whats your response to that ? Have you had a favorite time this happened to you?

Ok till next time keep snapping !

From a kind person

Well during a walk along the coastline in downtown Victoria/Oakbay you soon discover this chair. It was left by some kind person.

It is strategically placed and has a great view of the water and of Trial Island. I have seen it many times but this time I had to stop and take a picture of it. It was taken with the camera on my cell phone so the quality isn't the best but you get the idea. Let me know if you have seen this chair. Or even better if you have sat in it.

Ok till next time have a seat.

Opening day

Well today was Opening day for the 2009 major league baseball season. As always my two teams the Toronto Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners have a chance. They haven't played yet so just as good as anyone else. The first games of the season are always a fun time to watch. Or listen.

Well today at work I listened to the Cleveland vs Texas game which the rangers were winning when i turned it off as I finished work. I just checked now and the final score was 9-1 Texas.

Now I'm watching the Blue Jays home opener and the Jays are winning 9-1 also in the top of the 5th inning. I am also recording the Mariners opening game and will listen to that one tomorrow at work.

Been a long winter but a nice day today with baseball everywhere.

Play ball

What a difference a day makes

Well yesterday was not a great day, With heavy mail and snow and rain mix most of the day delivering. I then had a dentist appointment for a filling. Was a little numb and sore after and in the rain had to drive my wife out to a outing. We had arranged to pick up someone but it somehow got confused and the pickup didn't happen. Then off to the drugstore for some prescription to be refilled , then back to pick up my wife. Finally back at home and the nite ended.

Now today mail was still fairly heavy but the weather was great. about 9 degrees but clear and dry. And to top it off a lady stopped me on the street to tell me that she left something in her mail box for me to pick up for myself. It was a nice collection of
Purdy's chocolates. The reason was a couple of months ago while delivering to this address, I was in the driveway and next to the drivers door of their vehicle was 2 one hundred dollar bills. I knew exactly that it belonged to the driver of the vehicle so I knocked on the door and woke up the lady. I told her what I found and got a sleepy thank you from her. Well I never heard any more from her about it and thought maybe she didn't remember she was so sleepy. And I also didn't expect anymore from it after the thank you. Well it just shows to not take something that is not yours if you know where it should go. Kinda made my day with this package of chocolate after months of bad weather and heavy mail.

Well the day has turned to rain now but
I'm inside and just relaxing with my chocolate.

till next time.
