Missing for the Summer

Well I guess you wonder where I went?  The answer is a lot of places.  We were back in Ontario for the Canadian Horseshoe Pitching Championships. (no didn't win).  Niagara Falls, Toronto.   Then in BC we were in Penticton for the BC Championships. (Yes won that one).

Lots of Beaches and fun things to do around home, Butchart Gardens for the fireworks and watching the band Rukus.
and helped out at the Chili Cookoff.

And all the jobs around home.   So you can see I have lots of excuses as why I didn't blog.

But maybe those are reasons to blog.
I have put a few pics from the summer up and maybe more later.
Ok I'm back anyway
till next time

Are they sleeping in there?

I just found this sign and limo funny together on cook st near Dallas rd.  A great place to park for a walk but they don't want people staying there all night.  Sign says "No overnight Sleeping in Vehicles"
Just an interesting pair together.  What do you think?

Murder in the Back Yard

It was a quiet day and we were working in the front yard gardening. As lunch approached we headed around to the back.
Then I spotted it, feathers all over the sidewalk and brick patio.
Thinking maybe a fight between a cat and a bird , but no feathers were floating through the air.
I looked up and there sitting on top of a branch on the oak tree right by the patio was a Falcon (or was it a hawk, I'm not an expert on these kind of birds).
He was enjoying his meal of what I presume was a pigeon.

We walked around underneath to put away the gardening supplies and he just kept on eating , keeping a keen eye on us.

He was still enjoying his meal about an hour later.
And we thought it would be just a quiet day in the yard
boy were we wrong.  But Hey falcons have to eat too .

I WAS WRONG !!!

Last year when the news came out about putting guard rails on the breakwater in Victoria, B.C. I thought what a joke.
I mean I have lived here all my life and the only people that have gotten hurt are maybe a handful in 50 yrs.
So why waste the money and do this, and of course its going to look stupid.
Then I heard the reason as the harbour authority had no choice as the insurance company would not cover them for any risk of people getting injured.  So yes I guess they have no choice, we will be stuck with this ugly guard rails.

BUT I WAS WRONG !!
The new breakwater is now open with the rails up and they do not look bad.  In fact they look pretty good.
It is now safe for little kids to walk without parents holding hands so tightly.  The kids can even run and skip along.
Handicap people and wheelchairs are even great now on the breakwater.
Now if someone falls off the breakwater they really asked for it. You would have to climb up on the rail to fall now.
So take a look at these pictures and please go for a walk and enjoy it.
The one thing I like is you can stop half way now lean against the rail and just enjoy the view.  Before nothing to lean against.

Ok enjoy

Horseshoes for Malawi Results

On May 1 I pitched my Horseshoes for Malawi .  That was to raise money for the work of the Salvation Army in Malawi Africa.
I pitched 100 horseshoes and counted all the ringers.
I said my goal was between 40 & 60 ringers.  Well I got 56.

I had $8.59 pledged per ringer so that equals $480.92
plus I had donations of $235.00 so that equals $715.92

$715.92
I want to thank all of you that contributed.  If you haven't paid me yet I will try and collect it over the next couple of weeks.
Again thanks very much

Below is a scan of my scoresheet.  the ringers are marked with O
and 1 or 2 is just single points.
First game or 50 shoes I threw 23 ringers
Second  game or 50 shoes was 33 ringers
for that grand total of               56 ringers

Thanks

Total so far

Just a quick post here to tell you of my totals so far.
For my Horseshoes for Malawi.  I have pledges for $5.48 per ringer.  So if i throw 50 ringers that will raise. $273.90
Also I have $125 in straight donations.
With one week left till I pitch those 100 horseshoes.  I hope to raise that per ringer pledge total upward.  Wouldn't it be nice if I could get that to $10. per ringer.

So if you haven't pledged yet please consider sending me a email
xpostie@shaw.ca
and pledge say 10 cents a ringer.  it will cost you between $4. and $6 dollars.  And what a great cause for the building and upkeep of orpahages in Malawi Africa run by the Salvation Army.

Ok waiting on those emails.

Make a pledge

Dont know if I made it as clear as I wanted to on the last post.  But I do urge you all to make a pledge on my Horseshoes for Malawi.
You can do it by leaving a comment below, or email me at
xpostie@shaw.ca

Remember its 100 shoes im pitching.
and I usually average between 40-60 ringers.
So if you pledge 20 cents a ringer that will work out somewhere between $8-$12.
Or 10cents would be $4-$6.
Or some have even gone as much as $1.00 a ringer.

So far I have got $4.65  pledge per ringer.
My goal is to get to at least $10. per ringer.
Can you help out.  Remember it goes to a great cause
The Salvation Army's work in Malawi.

Horseshoes for Malawi

Hi there...  Its been a while since I did a blog.  Well this one you can help out with.
Horseshoes for Malawi !    That's in Africa.

What I am attempting to do is raise money for the Salvation Army's work in Malawi Africa.  They have a few orphanages. there and all this money will be sent there to help with upkeep and looking after many orphans from the Aids epidemic in Africa.

So what am I doing,  I will be pitching horseshoes on May 1 , Wednesday at the Greater Victoria Horseshoe Club. 620 Kenneth st.  Come on out and watch and cheer me on.
I will be tossing 100 horseshoes, and count all the ringers.
I am asking you help by pledging an amount for each ringer I make.
I should be somewhere between 40-60 ringers in 100 shoes.

So for instance if you sponsored me for 20 cents a ringer that would come in at between $8 and $12.    So how bout helping out this worthwhile cause.  For every dollar sent to Malawi would be like 10 times what its worth here.  Imagine if we sent a few hundred dollars that would be like a few thousand dollars.

Ok send me an email to sponsor me in my Horseshoe's for Malawi.

see you soon maybe at the horseshoe club May 1

Where in Victoria ( The answer)

And now the answer to Where in Victoria?
I'm surprised that no one left a comment or emailed me with the answer.  I guess because there was no prize.

I'm sure some of you must have been here before.
It is Walbran Park In Oak Bay.

It just at the end of Denison Rd in Oak Bay.  You drive past Gonzales Hill park and at the end of the road is the cairin and lookout.  I am told from reading that the lookout is from WWII.

Well enjoy the rest of the pics

And before you ask. No I didn't carve my first name in the plaque here.

Crooked Clock

Last Saturday we were in the  Bruce Hutchison Branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library.  That is the one that is in the building with the Commonwealth Pool.

That is where I spotted this clock on the wall.  I had to look twice because it took me by surprise.  I knew it was a great shot for my blog.  So while i took the pic , one of the ladies working there said "oh you like our clock".   To which I replied "Yes whats the origin of it"
Well it seems that it was bought at Urban Barn. And its called
Fashionably Late.  I searched Urban Barn website but could not find it so I'm sorry I cant tell you the price.  If you know send me a comment below on this post.

So I guess you get to pic which line on the second hand you get to read.  the longest is the exact time and the shorter part is well fashionably late.

found site abbey rd

Well you get two posts today.  On browsing the web today I found this site that shows the just before pictures of the famous Abbey Road.  You know the one on the Beatles album cover.

Now check out this site to see the ones taken just before this famous picture was taken.  Amazing how just the right one looks so much better than others.  But I do like the on that is of them waiting to cross and a older lady is talking to them.

Here is the link to the other pictures The shot before Abbey road album cover

And if you ever make it to London and want to get your picture taken on this famous crosswalk there are a few hints to help out.
The most important one is not to go to subway station called Abbey Rd.  It is on the other side of London from where you want to be.  you need to go to St. John's Wood subway station.

But here are some tips on getting that great pic at Abbey rd.

One Month Later

Well its been a month since my last post. Ive been bad I know. And one of my followers mentioned today that I haven't been blogging lately so I guess I should get back to it.

This is from a daily email I get from another friend every day. He has some great humorous little fun things to share.  I loved today so I thought I would share it with you.

Environment Canada  has issued a travel warning due to the snowfall and bad  road  conditions.

They suggest  that anyone traveling in the current icy conditions should make sure they  have the following:
Shovel
Blankets or sleeping bag
Extra  clothing including hat and gloves
24 hours worth of  food
De-Icer
Rock Salt
Flashlight with spare batteries
Road  Flares or Reflective Triangles
Gas can
First Aid Kit
Booster  cables

I looked  like a incredible idiot on the bus this  morning!
