100 Days

Well that's it 100 working days to go till my retirement. I have already accomplished 35 yrs at Canada Post as a letter carrier, but am waiting till I turn the old age of 55 before I retire from there. That age will happen on Dec.01, 2009 and will be my last day on strength for Canada Post. But I have about 5weeks of holidays so I am using them up just before Dec. 01. So my last day working will be Oct.30 if I have figured it out correctly.

Thus only 100 working days to go. With spring then summer and fall , the weather should be good going for those last days.

I'm not completely sure what the future will bring but I'm sure a much more relaxing morning time. No more getting up early and hustling out to work. Maybe I will work part time , maybe not. but it will be out of wanting to not needing to.

Well enough for now catch you later

Got to get one of these

Well as a household that still has a wood stove for heat. Gathering firewood is always a chore around here. Living on a hilly lot doesn't help either. If you ask my sons its hard work the day we get firewood in.

But this looks like a contraption I should have to make my life easier. The only thing it doesn't do is stack the wood in the woodshed.

road trip update

Well we made our Horseshoe trip to Cumberland (near Courtenay B.C) on Sunday. We left the house at 530am. (with little sleep as we were kept awake by a house party across the street. We toyed with leaving at 2am when we were awake but we did happen to get a couple hours sleep.

Arrived there at 820am and played in the B class in the morning. It was a up and down day for me as I was red hot in parts of games and stone cold in others. My best game was 48% ringers but the next game was down to 21%. I lost 2 games but both of them had to be finished twice as there were errors on adding. The first had me losing 39-31 playing to 40 points. and I threw 2 ringers and closed it to 39-37 but could not get one on and he got a single point to win it. The second one I was up 38-31 and had ringer fall off and only get one point then the other guy threw ringer after ringer to finish me off. So in all I finished in second place.

For lunch we took a picnic lunch to the Filberg park in comox. What a beautiful view overlooking the inlet and the snow capped mountains in the background.

We returned to the tournament and after the awards we headed home but stopped for pizza in ladysmith at Georges Restaurant. mmmmm.

all in all a good day.

playoff 3rd round

Well lets see how I did in the last round of predictions. there were four series and I got 1 out of 4 right.

Detroit Anaheim series I picked Detroit. correct.

Chicago Vancouver series I picked Vancouver wrong.

Pittsburgh Washington series I picked Washington wrong.

Boston Carolina series I picked Boston Wrong..

Didn't do too well that round.

Ok now what.

Detroit Chicago.... I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Chicago as they are on a real roll here. playing excellent with lots of energy and youth.

Pittsburgh Carolina ... Well I think Pittsburgh is the team with the most here. lots of veterans with enough tough stuff to win.

Lets hope I do better this time.

Well my hockey team, The Vancouver Canucks are now out of the playoffs. And at work everyone knows that I am a faithful fan of them. So every year when they are finished I get razzed by the other guys about my team not winning. It is all in good fun. Well today someone left this on my desk . The canucks new logo. enjoy

Here is a interesting story about a 109 yr old lady from England and her complaint about the cards she receives from the Queen. You have to watch this video its really kinda neat. Unfortunately you have to watch a commercial first on this link to ABC News. enjoy

Horseshoe Road Trip

Well heading on a road trip for Horseshoe pitching this weekend. We are traveling to the little community of Cumberland BC. It is right beside Courtney. Last year I won the C event of this tournament but have moved up to the B event in most tournaments now. And some times I'm shifted into the A event but have not had much success in the A events yet.

So this is the second tournament of the year for me so far with two weeks ago in Burnaby's Central Park I played in the A event. Finished with 2 wins and 4 losses for 5th place but I played well, just not good enough for any results.

Well wish me luck this weekend and if you want to have some fun and join a sport that's very cheap cost wise. Horseshoes is the one.

OK later

Poor sports

Well I spent the last week at the RBC Cup Jr A Hockey tournment. Last nite I was watching the local Victoria Grizzlies play a semi-final game against the Humboldt Broncos. The game went into overtime and sadly the Broncos scored with 2 seconds left in the overtime period to win the game. It was a hard played game by both teams with the Grizzlies outplaying the Broncos in the overtime but could not find the net with the puck. The season is now finished for the Grizzlies and it was a good one. But now the Broncos will play in the final of the RBC Cup against the highly rated Vernon Vipers.

Now the point I want to make . As soon as the game was over, with the goal scored the Victoria coach Geoff Courtnall slammed down a water bottle and walked off the bench and into the dressing room. Out of 3 coaches on the team only one went out on the ice to shake hands with the other team. It is a tradition in hockey when a series or tournament and a team is eliminated they shake hands. Now this is just poor sportsmanship of the coaches not to go with their team and shake hands . What kind of message are they sending to the young kids in the crowd and the young junior players that they are in charge of.

This display of poor sportsmanship upset me and I'm thinking of not buying season tickets with this team next year. I will not support that kind of display. So we will see who coaches this team next year. My advice is find a real leader.

But kudos to the players on the team they played well all year and I enjoyed watching them. and I appreciate the one coach who did go out there and shake hands at the end. Way to lead , maybe you should take over this team for next year.

well enough for now

Busy times

Well things have gotten busy. It turned May and now everything has started up or winding down with interesting finishes.

My hobby of Horseshoe pitching has started. I belong to the Greater Victoria Horseshoe Pitching Association
Its nice to start fishing, but i haven't even gotten to that yet, because its playoff season and with my trusty Canucks in the quarter finals who could not be into it. Also the local Junior hockey team the Grizzlies are playing in the Royal Bank Cup. This is the Canadian Championship for Junior A tier 2 . So far they are 1 win and 1 loss with a big game tonight against Vernon which is 2-0.

And throw in cutting lawns and cleanup at home and work that makes for a busy time. But this time next year I will be retired so the work thing wont get in the way.

Well sorry I haven't written much in the last week I will try to keep up with this , but till next time
