LEFT AT LIGHT

The other day just north of Chemanius we saw a sign on the highway, that said "CARVINGS LEFT AT LIGHT". We joked that it could be taken a few ways. It could mean as it was intended I think that you turn left at the light to see some carvings for sale. But then another meaning could be that someone left the carvings at the light or a light. Maybe someone stoled them then felt guilty and returned them and just left them at the light. Or a third meaning could be that the carvings were at the light but somehow they left. Anyway it just shows that words can mislead. Maybe a comma or a simple addition of the word turn . Carvings turn left at light.

Any signs that get you thinking ?

ok till next time

Christmas play

Our church did the traditional Christmas play differently this year. Instead of practicing in the sunday school for weeks on end. They did it on one sunday with a digital camera and some great costumes. They put all the pictures that they took into a video and added music. and there was a profesional looking video of the Christmas message. This way they didn't have any embarassing situtations such as a little girl not speaking loud enough or forgetting her lines. Or a little boy embarassing mom and dad by scratching his backside while saying his lines. It all turned out fantastic. here is the link

Well let me know what you thought of this process.

ok till next time and Merry Christmas , I think i forgot that on the 25th

Thinking about the Sundin signing

Well I guess everyone has heard about Matts Sundin signing with the Vancouver Canucks. Well Im looking forward to see how that works out . The Canucks are my team so yes I'm excited that they signed another player to help them without losing a player. But I still remember the Messier experiment. It was a complete failure. But as I look on with anticipation and hope its not another Messier, I thought you would love to see this video about the signing.

Its called When Hitler finds out about the Sundin

ok till then

Let it snow..... enough already

This is Victoria. We only get lots a snow once every 10 yrs. Has it been 12 yrs since the storm of 96. I guess it has. well this one is not as bad but its still bad for Victoria. Its been a week now but the first week was only half the snow. its been snowing now on and off for 2 days and we have going on 1 1/2 feet in the langford area. Im dreading work at the post office on monday. The heaviest day of the year . (Last monday before Christmas) Havent been out and about today just did shoveling and helping a neighbour get unstuck. Not sure how the rest of the city is doing but im sure its moving very slow. Hopefully a lot of people will just take a early Christmas break and make a week of it. well resting up before tomorrow. take care and plow through and make the best of it.

What's new from Burger King

Well Just heard this today on the Radio. Burger King has just released a perfume called Flame. Flame is being promoted as "the scent of seduction with a hint of flame-broilled meat". It is a body spray for men. Now you don't have to work at Burger King to smell like a burger.

It is said to be going for the same price as a U.S. $3.99. The same price they charge for a Whopper!

Some online comments to this are like this

I'm no vegetarian, but even I find that mildly offensive... and gross.
and

who in their right mind would WANT to smell like meat? eeww...

Well what do you think? send a comment. and dont forget to join my new Googlegroup then you can be emailed everytime this blog gets updated which is hopefully often.

Ok till next time , eat burgers and smell good or just buy the perfume.

Modern Parable

Just a joke i found thought it was appropriate for the times.

A Japanese company ( Toyota ) and an American company (Ford Motors) decided to have a canoe race on the Missouri River Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race. On the big day, the Japanese won by a mile.

The Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate the reason for the crushing defeat. A management team made up of senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action. Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, while the American team had 7 people steering and 2 people rowing. Feeling a deeper study was in order; American management hired a consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a second opinion. They advised, of course, that too many people were steering the boat, while not enough people were rowing. Not sure of how to utilize that information, but wanting to prevent another loss to the Japanese, the rowing team's management structure was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 2 area steering superintendents and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager. They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 2 people rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called the 'Rowing Team Quality First Program,' with meetings, dinners and free pens for the rowers. There was discussion of getting new paddles, canoes and other equipment, extra vacation days for practices and bonuses. The pension program was trimmed to 'equal the competition' and some of the resultant savings were channeled into morale boosting programs and teamwork posters. The next year the Japanese won by two miles.

Humiliated, the American management laid-off one rower, halted development of a new canoe, sold all the paddles, and canceled all capital investments for new equipment. The money saved was distributed to the Senior Executives as bonuses. The next year, try as he might, the lone designated rower was unable to even finish the race (having no paddles,) so he was laid off for unacceptable performance, all canoe equipment was sold and the next year's racing team was out-sourced to India .

Sadly, the End. Here's something else to think about: Ford has spent the last thirty years moving all its factories out of the US , claiming they can't make money paying American wages. TOYOTA has spent the last thirty years building more than a dozen plants inside the US The last quarter' s results: TOYOTA makes 4 billion in profits while Ford racked up 9 billion in losses. Ford folks are still scratching their heads, and collecting bonuses... IF THIS WEREN'T SO TRUE IT MIGHT BE FUNNY

Others

Whats the oposite of selfish? Thinking of Others. And at Christmas time the best way to think of others is to give of your time , money , or talents. Thats exactly what the concert was about last night at the Royal theatre. It was the 30th annual Naden band Christmas concert helping out the Salvation Army Toy drive. The concept was to buy a ticket for a small charge $5. and bring a unwrapped toy to donate to the Salvation army so that they could help parents that are struggling at Christmas to put something under the tree. The concert was great with a good selection of Christmas carols and other songs by the band. And what a pile of toys that were collected. Just think little brian or susie will wake up Christmas and not expect anything because maybe mom lost her job , or Dad has spent too much of his paycheck on addictions. Kids know when there isnt enough money to go around. And there will be some thing for them. It wont solve all their problems but there is a bit of hope now .

Every year My wife and I join some family members and friends and go for dinner and then to the concert. It sort of marks our Christmas to a start. And just knowing you have helped others makes it worth while. So help out someone else this Christmas and feel good. And next year if you can check out the concert you wont regret it . Maybe you can start a tradition of attending every year too.

ok till later

Wrong Lyrics

Did you ever change the words to a song? I am home today from work with a cold and I sing this now as have many times before, I'll be sick for Christmas. But not changing the words on purpose but as CBC now has a thing for people to write in they're mistakes on lyrics without knowing. I know especially when you are young you get these mixed up.

Our son's friend was practicing for a Christmas concert and was singing " Little Donkey , Hairy Mary" instead of carry Mary. And I use to listen to my Scottish Grandmother sing " Mares eat oates, and does eat oates, and little lambs eat ivy, a kid will eat ivy too wouldn't you." Well I always thought she was saying some Scottish word called kideleativy. Now sing that as one word.
On CBC someone wrote in that the song Hold me closer tiny dancer by Elton John and was used in a sitcom on tv starring Tony Danza. Well this person grew up thinking the words were Hold me closer Tony Danza.

There are so many examples of these, But sometimes we keep singing the wrong way cause we don't know yet that it is wrong. Well what are your mistakes. comment on here and lets hear them. Ok till next time

It doesn't get any better than this

Imagine for a minute , A young player 23 yrs old playing professional soccer in the MLS soccer league for the New York Red Bulls. His name is Danny Cepero . He sits his first season on the bench without playing. Then in the playoffs of the second season he gets to play as the regular goalie was suspended for substance abuse.
He plays a wonderful game , making many of great saves to take his team to a 3-1 win over the Columbus Crew. But the most astonishing feat was that he took a non penalty kick from deep in his own end and kicked it down field where it took the perfect bounce and went over the other goalkeeper into the net.
Wow your first game and you score a goal, and your not even a position player that will normally score a goal. Plus its your first game in 2 yrs.
If it was me I would be so nervous in my first game , not wanting to make a mistake. And to play great and do this once in a career feat. What a thrill.
It just shows keep plugging along when you set your goal (pun not intended) to do something in life. Work hard and when you get a opportunity go out and do your best. Not all things work out this great but if you are where your suppose to be and you get the chance things will work out somewhat good. Talent and hard work is what makes great athletic plays. And in this case a bit of a fortunate bounce.

Ok till next time I kick this around.

Glue doesnt fix all

At our church we put out a small nativity scene in the foyer each Christmas. Well last year either putting it out in the morning or putting it back after the service(we have a rental theatre we use for our church) the baby Jesus fell and the head came off. I know at first this sounds bad and the person that dropped it felt really bad but accidents happen.
Well we forgot about it this year and when we put it out the head was still just sitting there loose. Well Bev decided to get some glue and put it back together. It is now complete again. But it got us thinking that everyone seems to expect at Christmas is to concentrate on the baby. But we thought about what if there was no baby anymore . It wasn't that God came to us in a baby that's the important thing , It is that He grew up and became the man Jesus who saved the world from sin by dying on the cross. I know we celebrate that on easter but its something we need to appreciate all year round and especially even at Christmas. When we think of the manger scene , lets remember that the baby there grew and then died for us to save us. Glue fixed the little baby in our scene but only God can fix us . As the bible says
Everyone that calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Merry Christmas. enjoy and celebrate , the baby grew up! Till next entry bye

Something for free for Christmas

My wife and I were out and about town today doing our yearly day of Christmas shopping. I normally take a day off early in December and we spend the whole day Christmas shopping along with a nice lunch out and also a dinner.
Well all went well with lots of gifts bought and two enjoyable meals. The first was lunch at the Ogden point café at the breakwater. A great view and a nice calm day with boats passing by.
But as we went for a short drive after lunch that’s when we decided to check out something we read about a while ago. We drove to Clare st in Oak Bay and yes as the article said was a small glass door cupboard with two shelves filled with books for kids and adults. It is a community free library. What a great idea. The sign said leave a book and enjoy one. So I had a pocket book in the truck that I left and picked up one by Andy Rooney of sixty minutes fame. See in this day of expensive books and gifts, it is nice to see that there is still something worthwhile and exciting for free.
It is said that no one knows who put it up but its been there for quite a while. I’m sure only the person that did it knows and likes the idea of it being still kept a secret. Well that’s it for today, if you get a chance check it out. Clare st just off Oak Bay Ave.

ok catch you another day

Sean Avery outburst

Well I guess you have all heard of the Sean Avery outburst before his team the Dallas Stars were playing the Calgary flames. He spoke out about a flame player and his former girlfriend. I wont repeat what he said but it was not appropriate. The NHL is in the process to suspend him and the Dallas stars have said that they would have if the nhl didint. So whats that got to do with me and this blog. Well its a good reminder for me while I write this blog that I should watch what I say about people as I talk about things, people and circumstances in this blog from the Sidelines. As I say in my description of the blog I plan to write about observing things from the sidelines of life. Well a good reminder for me to be careful. ok thats it adios amigos.

The start

Well here we go.... This is the start of the blog. Im trying this out while i listen to the canucks vs detroit hockey game.. Not sure how much I will get into this but lets see where it goes. Ok this was a short one to start this off. ok catch you next time.
