Busy weekend
Yes it has been a busy busy weekend. Friday nite was taken up with us having our Grandson overnight. It is tiring with a 5 yr old and trying to keep up. On Saturday morning we travelled up island to Ladysmith for a Horseshoe tournament and a day at the park/beach. I played in the A division in the morning 2-2 record. Then afternoon at the beach/park/water park.
A return Sunday but without the grandson and a 3-1 record for a total of 5-3. Good enough for 2nd place in the A. My best finish so far.
Visiting relatives in Ladysmith then driving home. Today my wife informs me that the Downy woodpeckers I told you about a few posts ago that made a nest in a rotten branch in the oak tree. Well its official they now have babies. I cant hear the high pitch of the babies but my wife can.
'Well enough for now. later

Bi annual walk
Well being on holidays this week , My wife and I went on one of our long walks that we do about twice a year. We start out by driving to the Breakwater on Dallas road.
Then we continue on along Dallas road past Beacon Hill park, past Ross Bay cemetery.
At this point we stop and walk up beside the cemetery and go to Fairfield mall and have a coffee and tea at Starbucks.
Having had a break we get back on Dallas road and follow the water all the way along to Oak Bay. We had commitments later in the afternoon so we cut the walk a bit short and cut up on transit rd and then into the town of Oak Bay. Had lunch at the Pub there (2 for 1 burgers), then hopped on a bus to town and then transfer to another to the breakwater.
Then its a short 1/2 hr drive home.
Well looking forward to that walk in another 6 months or maybe sooner as I will be retired by then and maybe we will do it more often.
Ok till next time

I know im getting older because
I know I'm getting older because I am enjoying sitting having my coffee and watching the action in the bird bath. I never thought I would turn into a bird watcher sort of. But its so nice on this summer morning to sit here and watch all the activity with the bird bath. There are so many different kinds using this bath. Robins, sparrows, finches, towhees, small and big woodpeckers, hummingbirds, and others i cant recall right now.
So this got me thinking of how they seem to get along at this watering hole. Its just like in our community there are places with different types of people and different ethic groups come together and spend time having a refreshing beverage or meal. Most time the people get along at the meeting place but at times there is conflict. The same with the bird bath. I find the robins are the most anti social as they like to keep the bath for themselves. But at times they share with a sparrow or like today a robin and a red flicker woodpecker were in the bath at the same time.
Well enjoy and when I don't post everyday maybe I'm busy watching the action at the bird bath.

When I grow up I want to
Imagine getting paid to play in the sand. I know lots of professions seem like a dream come true. I would have loved to play professional sport or be a sports announcer but that didn't work out. I am still happy in what I choose. So click on the comment below and tell me what you wanted to do when you grew up. And how close did you come.
Ok till next time.

Man overboard
Then the employees of the ferry
did their drill with lowering a life raft with two outboard motors on it.
The drill seemed a bit slow as they had a bit of trouble with one of the wires connected to the life raft. But then that's why you do drills to iron out the problems. A 15 min delay but I'm glad they do these things.
As for the tournament they didn't start till we got there and I came in a respectable 3rd place in the A division.
Ok till next time

Highlanders
Well I took in my first Victoria Highlanders Football club game tonight at City Centre park in Langford. This is Victoria's new pro soccer team and Langford's new stadium.
The team took on the Cascade Surge of the USL league. Its a minor pro league with teams mostly based in the USA. Very good calibre of play and with 1473 fans turning out for this their 4th home game, it was a very positive experience. Cascade came away with a 2-1 win but Victoria carried the ball possession most of the game. Victoria also played the last half with out 1 player as he was ejected with a red card for a dangerous play.
I was quite impressed with the stadium called City Centre park which is in the new area that used to be know in Langford as Hulls field. Its down the road across from the mall in Langford. take a look at these pictures and its a very functional stadium without the frills but a very positive experience there. Oh and yes the fans for the game were very enthusiastic. with a rowdy section called the Bravehearts and with not one but two bagpipers walking throughout the stadium.
If you like soccer you must check out this team and stadium. Give me a call Id like to go to another game.
Ok till next time

Stanley Cup and Garage sales
Well I haven't posted for a bit and with lots of different things going on frankly haven't had a lot of time. Hope to be more regular with the postings now.
Well the Pittsburgh Penguins just won the Stanley Cup with a well deserved 2-1 win over Detroit in the seventh game. Pittsburgh being the visitor in the 7th game did the feat as the last visitor to win a Stanley cup 7th game was Montreal back in 1971. Hats off to the Penguins who gutted it out with their captain Sidney Crosby hurt in the second period. Well now its off till next year. Maybe its the year for my team Go Canucks !
Tomorrow my wife and I are heading out to Oak Bay for the annual
GARAGELLENIUM 2009
Date: June 13th
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Click www.oakbaygaragesale.com for information.
Click here for the list of garage sale locations.
Its the time of year that Oak Bay has for everyone to have a garage sale and not have as many the rest of the time. We enjoy this as you can park and just walk in the nice neighbourhoods and pick up some treasures. You always seem to meet someone you know. Well that's it Ill tell you what I find tomorrow.

A market for everything
Well had a laugh in a store today in Sidney. We spotted this baby accessory that in our days of raising kids didn't exist. Its called the Pee Pee Teepee. You know that problem with male babies when you change them and sometimes the mother or father or whoever is changing him gets a squirt in the face, or on your clothes.
Well now someone has come up with this invention to replace the quick grab of the unused cloth diapers or towel that is close by. I remember once my wife grabbed about 5 cloth diapers in a hurry to stop the stream of unwanted substance.
Well that's my spotting of a new product for you parents. enjoy.

It all happens in the back yard
Well yesterday was an interesting day wildlife wise here. a pair of downy woodpeckers were carving a nest in a hole above our brick area. And dropping all of the shavings there. tired of sweeping it up. But enjoying watching them too. Yesterday a larger Red flicker woodpecker showed up right by the nest and the pair of downy woodpecker put on a air show dive bombing it till it left.
Then just next door in the wooded area we see a doe walking gingerly by. Wondering what was wrong with her and there right behind her staggering shakily along was a new born fawn. Then the fawn started to feed off the mother.
This morning while having a coffee before work on the deck we watched a couple of raccoons feeding off snails in the pond next door on the other side.
Wow we live in enchanted forest I guess.
