wood party
A big job that needs a team to get it done. So we have another wood splitting party. We did this a couple of years ago and it went well.
We rent a wood splitter , and then have a lot of people to load the truck and drive it up the driveway. If enough show up we will wheelbarrow it around back and load up the now empty new woodshed.
Wanna help well come on by. We are having pizza for lunch. Ok see ya there

There are quite a few little coves with spectacular views out into the harbour and out farther to the strait. This day was a bit sunny with a bit of fog in the background made for some great views. Filling the Void
In little main street View Royal, with the recent upgrades to the Old island hwy rd., their is a small gem that is filling a missing void in the town.
Joseph's cafe is well situated at the corner of Island Hwy and Helmeken. In the ground floor of a medical building the family run cafe is a great gathering place, for all walks of life.
We were walking around the neighbourhood of View Royal today and at the end ,stopped in for a coffee, tea and a few cookies.
This is run by former Empress and Bear Mountain chef Joseph Lake. All the baking is done on site and they also do catering and consulting. I recommend you stop by for coffee there and enjoy the delicious baked goods and great hospitality.
The only downside I saw was I don't care for the bowl style cups as your drink cools down to fast. I'm more of a tall mug kind of person.
Oh yea did I say the cookies were delicious? They were !!!
In the next few days I will post more pictures of our walk in View Royal.
Ok till next time enjoy your coffee or tea.

My Kind of Art
Some people love to go to the Art Gallery to see masterpieces. But I like to see the great murals that artists do around in different towns. Enjoy

Imaginary walk
I saw something that was once on a website for fitness in greater Victoria but no longer available. So I thought it was a neat idea so I'm going to try and do it with this blog.
The idea is to imaginary walk up and down Vancouver Island. You just go for a walk anywhere you want and figure out the kilometers that you walk and just figure out where on the island you would be if you were walking to the end. Just keep adding up the kilometers you walk till your at the top and then back again.

So I'm starting from my house. I will be using Google maps and using the directions and selecting walking instead of driving. So my first goal is to get to Mill Bay from my house. It says it will take 6 hrs and 25 min. So I will walk till my total gets to 6 hr and 25 min. I might walk for 20 min one day 2 hrs the next but eventually I will total the 6 hrs and 25 min. Then I pick my next goal. And so forth till I make it to the end. Then turn around and come back again.
I wonder how long this will take. Going to be interesting. I will let you know when I reach each goal.
Ok Ill start walking tomorrow. and any other day I feel like walking.
ok later

Slacker
I was just playing around on the internet the other day and came across Slacker Radio. So I tried and came up with two radio stations. One is called Selwyn easy. and the other is Easy listening Selwyn. check them out on your computer. Kinda cool to sort of tune the type of music you want and also get some new music with similar artists added too. Watch the youtube video about Slacker radio.

Mill Hill
The hill near our house is called Mill Hill. At one time there was a ranger station on the top to look out for forest fires. Originally named Mill Hill because get this millstream is at the foot of it and its just above six mile bridge where a old mill was during Victoria's early years.
You can see our house (the brown one) in a couple of these pictures but now if you go up its hard to see as trees have grown up around it and makes it hard to see.
Also in the pictures are early pics of Costco. and on the other side one of the best overall views of Esquimalt harbour and greater Victoria.
Its only a 20 min walk up and not too steep. Have you ever been up there. Even our old dog Nicky enjoyed going up there.
These pics were taken by one of the first digital cameras that came out. It was a sony mavica which we bought for a trip to the UK back in 98. These pics were taken I believe feb. 99
