With just one day left my virual ikettle for the Salvation Army is like the real ones behind in its goal. I know here in Victoria the Salvation Army goal was 100,000. behind but people were stepping up and giving cheerfully to a worthwhile cause.

making it clear
I had a few questions about my last post. This ikettle is a Salvation Army kettle that is here on my blog. Just like you see when you go into Walmart or a mall. So just click on the link and it will take you to the Salvation Army site that has my ikettle on.
You can make a donation by credit card or paypal. Here is a easy suggestion for all of you, and it is secure. Just make a $5.00 donation by credit card. Remember I'm only trying to raise $100. this first time. So go ahead and make a donation. It will really benefit someone that who knows their life could be changed for the good.
Ok here's the link

Odd Shot moday 12/05
Well today's Odd Shot picture comes from a statue in front of the Westshore RCMP building. It has been there for a while and I'm sure you might have seen pictures of it before in different brochures or magazines.
But this one is a bit different. It was taken just after a rain. Can you see the drips from the noses of the Lady and little girl. I don't know if the Artist designed it that way for when it rained, or if that was just the way it turned out. But It brings the image to life with a drip on the nose as if each were crying.

Bigger Picture
Well it is Thanksgiving in the USA, and I know we celebrated it a month ago here in Canada , But Happy Thanksgiving to all.
While watching the football games today on TV, being a feast of games for Thanksgiving in the NFL. I could not help my self wondering where some of these guys minds were. I have observed this mindset before during games of any sport. But today It just got me wondering why no one says anything about it.
One team was losing by almost 3 touchdowns and only a miracle would get them to win. A defensive lineman hits the Quarterback in the arm and the ball pops out. But the offensive team quickly falls on the ball and no big harm done to the offense.
But the defensive player is jumping up and down with great joy, for his knocking the ball loose. His team did not get the ball back and its still looking like they are going to loose big time. But he is still doing a great dance of Joy and celebration.
He seems to be caught up in his own little world, and not seeing the bigger picture that his team is getting beat badly.
Again in a hockey game a player gets a big hit or wins a fight and is so proud of himself as he is skating off to the bench or penalty box . His team is losing 5-0 and he again is celebrating.
Does he not see the big picture?
Well how bout us on Thanksgiving , whether USA or Canada. Do we only see it as one day to thank God for our blessings or maybe we should see the big picture and thank him everyday.
Well what do you think?

Who's Bottom ?
Quick's Bottom. One of the spots I haven't been to in Greater Victoria in years. It is one of Saanich's least know parks.
A bird sanctuary that you can access off of Wilkinson rd or Markham rd.
A good 40 min walk around but as the winter sets in I would not advise it unless your wearing rubber boots. I'm planning on going back in the spring. I hear it is a great place to bird watch. I'm not a big bird watcher but I'm sure I could watch for a bit. Notice the bird blind.
I would rather just sit out in the open on a deck if you ask me.
Anyway check it out.

Arrived in Courtenay
Well in my imaginary walk, where i keep track of my walking and then translate it into a walk up Vancouver Island, I am just leaving Courtenay . The walk from Parksville to Courtenay took 14 hrs and 38 min. And now the next section is Courtenay to Campbell River. This should take 9 hrs and 44 min.
Well that should take a week and half or two weeks. Ok keep walking best way to stay fit.

Odd Shot
Sorry I haven't posted for a while, you know with fall here its a busy time. All the things you didn't do in the summer and all the things you need to do before winter.
Well this is a day early for Monday's Odd Shot. But here it is A huge stump in this truck. Now I find that a bit odd as how did they get that big of a stump in that truck. Also why is it just parked there with no work anywhere around. I mean if that was in my truck I'd want it out as fast as I could. It would be pretty heavy. And imagine if it shifted when you were driving, now that would cause some serious damage to your truck or another car or person.

Heading to Parksville
If you have been following this blog for the last little while, you know that I am on a trip from Langford to the end of the Vancouver Island and back. Well I am now on a leg from Nanaimo to Parksville. (sorry don't have time on this trip to see my sister). This is an imaginary trip. I keep track of my walking and then measure it against walking the island.
Well this leg takes 7 hrs. I am 1 hr into the leg. Ok after I have done this maybe this could be done as a fund raiser for something who knows. This time is just a test to see how it works out.
Happy Walking.

Finnished
Well the job is finally finished. 10 hrs on Saturday and 7 hrs today for a total 17 hrs of wood splitting. Of course with that loved wood splitter. It would have taken us all year to do this without it.
I am so Thankful the job is done and a great group of friends came and spent a few hours on one or both of the days to help us get the job done.
We will be warm for years to come. Drop by sometime for a coffee or tea by the woodstove. Ok till next time

Too much wood
Just that too much wood. We had the splitter going for 9 hrs and still only got 2/3 of the wood split. But lucky we phoned the rental place when we realized it would not get done in one day. And got the splitter for the rest of the long weekend.
Took today off for Thanksgiving but we will be hard at it tomorrow morning starting around 8am. Don't forget if your free drop by and help out. We had a lot of fun working together splitting , stacking wood, and just having a great day working together.
I want to thank all who came out on Saturday , especially a young guy from down the street who saw what was going on and came and joined in to help.
Ok if you can see you tomorrow morning.

The 5 min job
Well as you know we have our wood splitting work party this Saturday. And I reserved to rent a wood splitter from the local rental shop.
I enquired as to what size ball I needed for the wood splitter and was told you need a 2 " ball. I looked at my truck and it was a 1 7/8" ball. So I bought a new 2" ball.
So unscrew the old ball , put on the new ball, 5 min job right.
Wrong.
I went to use my wrench on the ball but the lip of the bumper on both sides didn't allow me to get it off that way.
So I didn't have a socket big enough to fit that so had to drive to a friends house.
We used the socket got the ball off and went to put the new one in , and guess what. the shaft of the 2" ball was bigger than the hole on the bumper. GRRRRRRRRrr
So now to track down a ball with a smaller shaft, take the other one back, then back to my friends to use his socket again.
The time was just under 2 hrs for a 5 min job. Don't you just love those simple jobs.
Ok well tomorrow we dig in and work together to get the wood all stacked and moved to the new wood shed. Hint Hint.
come on by. remember pizza for lunch.
ok till next time

A big job that needs a team to get it done. So we have another wood splitting party. We did this a couple of years ago and it went well.
We rent a wood splitter , and then have a lot of people to load the truck and drive it up the driveway. If enough show up we will wheelbarrow it around back and load up the now empty new woodshed.
Wanna help well come on by. We are having pizza for lunch. Ok see ya there

The view is Royal
As promised here are some more pics of the walk in View Royal last week. Its no wonder its called View Royal. There are quite a few little coves with spectacular views out into the harbour and out farther to the strait. This day was a bit sunny with a bit of fog in the background made for some great views. Hope you enjoy. There will be 2 parts. Part 1.
